Safely Using A Drywall Lift

Using a drywall lift will save you many hours of work and protect your muscles and back at the same time!   Installing drywall on a ceiling usually takes more than one person but can be done by you alone if you have a lift to help you.  There are quality lifts for rent by the hour and new models that you can purchase quite reasonably.

A lift for drywall is a simple device.  All you have to do is put a sheet of drywall on it and jack it up manually to the ceiling.  The lift keeps the drywall sheet in place until you have it securely nailed or screwed into the ceiling.

The only heavy lifting you will have to do is when you load one sheet of drywall onto the lift.  Sheetrock panels can weigh quite a bit so it’s wise for you to use some precautions whenever you lift a panel.  Make sure that you never lift more than one sheet at a time because an individual drywall sheet can weight as much as 120 pounds.  The safest way to get it onto the lift is to pick up one corner of the sheet and slide it into place.  You’ll more than likely be able to roll your lift over to your supply of drywall because most lifts are portable and come with casters (wheels).  Also, stack your drywall so that you can easily get your hand under each sheet.

Another important safety precaution is that you should never lift sheetrock panels on your head, with or without a hard hat.  Only use your arms and hands so that you aren’t exposed to a serious neck injury.  If you are concerned at all about lifting the drywall panels onto your lift, think about renting or buying a lift loader.  Lift loaders distribute the panels onto the lift and it requires no physical effort on your part.

A drywall lift is your answer to getting your sheetrock into place with very little effort on your part.  It will  get the job done for you in no time and you’ll be more than glad that you decided to use this “handy” little gadget for your drywall project!
